Returns and Warranty FAQ for Amazon and Third Party Retailer PurchasesUpdated a day ago

Start with the original retailer whenever possible, especially if you are still within their return or exchange window. This is usually the fastest path to a return or exchange, and many retailers can process the request directly.

What are typical return windows for common retailers?

Return policies vary by seller, product, membership status, and location. Always confirm the specific policy shown on your order receipt or retailer account.

Typical return windows may include:

  • Amazon: 30 days
  • REI: Up to 1 year for eligible purchases
  • Target: 90 days for many items
  • Walmart: 90 days for many items
  • Crate & Barrel: 30 days for many eligible items

What if I need a full product replacement?

If your product is broken, defective, or unusable and requires a full replacement, we will first determine whether the purchase is still within the original retailer's return or exchange window.

  • If the retailer's return or exchange window is still open: Please work directly with the retailer for a return or exchange. LifeStraw does not provide a full product replacement while the purchase is still eligible for return or exchange through the original retailer. This helps prevent duplicate resolutions, such as receiving both a retailer refund and a replacement from LifeStraw.
  • If the retailer's window has closed: We can review your request under the applicable LifeStraw Limited Warranty. Warranty eligibility depends on factors including proof of purchase, purchase source, warranty period, product condition, and the cause of the failure.

Where can LifeStraw send a full warranty replacement?

LifeStraw currently provides direct full-product warranty replacement fulfillment within the United States, Canada, and the European Union.

If you are located outside of these service regions, we may be unable to ship a replacement product directly to your location. If your LifeStraw product was purchased through Amazon, another retailer, or an international distributor, we recommend contacting the original seller or the LifeStraw distributor serving your region to determine what local warranty support may be available.

You can find our list of international distributors here:

Product availability through Amazon, a retailer, or another marketplace does not necessarily mean that LifeStraw's fulfillment centers can ship warranty replacements to that country.

These fulfillment limitations do not affect any rights or remedies you may have under applicable local consumer protection laws.

What if I only need a spare part?

When an issue can be resolved with a spare or replacement part, LifeStraw may be able to assist even if the purchase is still within the retailer's return period. Providing a spare part allows you to continue using your original product without requiring a full product replacement.

Examples of spare parts that may be available include:

  • Cap or lid
  • Hose or connector
  • Seal or O-ring
  • Syringe or backwashing accessory
  • Other available replaceable components

Replacement spare parts can currently only be shipped within the United States.

If you are located outside of the United States, please contact the original retailer or the LifeStraw distributor serving your region to determine whether the needed part or another local solution is available.

What does the LifeStraw warranty cover?

Warranty support applies when a product or component fails during normal intended use due to a qualifying defect in materials or workmanship.

Examples may include:

  • A leaking seam or connection not caused by impact, misuse, or improper assembly
  • A valve, lid, spigot, or other component that fails prematurely
  • A product that does not function as intended after proper setup and reasonable troubleshooting
  • A missing, incorrect, or defective component included with the original purchase
  • A filter or reusable component that fails unusually early despite proper use, cleaning, and storage

Warranty eligibility is determined after reviewing the individual product and circumstances.

What is not covered by the warranty?

The LifeStraw Limited Warranty generally does not cover:

  • Accidental damage or breakage
  • Dropped or impact-damaged products
  • Broken glass caused after delivery
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic damage, staining, or discoloration that does not affect product function
  • Lost, stolen, or discarded products or parts
  • Misuse, modification, disassembly, freezing, excessive heat, or use with unsupported liquids
  • Improper cleaning, storage, or maintenance
  • Filters that have reached their expected lifespan or capacity
  • Reduced flow caused by sediment, minerals, water quality, or maintenance needs rather than a product defect
  • Products purchased used, refurbished, renewed, or through resale channels, including Amazon Renewed or REI Re/Supply

Can I get a refund from LifeStraw for an Amazon or retailer purchase?

LifeStraw does not provide refunds for purchases made outside LifeStraw.com.

If you purchased your product through Amazon, a retailer, or another third-party seller, refund requests must be directed to the original seller and are subject to that seller's return and refund policies.

If the retailer's return period has ended and you believe the product has a qualifying defect, LifeStraw can review the product for warranty eligibility.

What happens after I submit my information?

Once we receive the requested information, we will review:

  • Proof of purchase
  • Purchase date and seller
  • Product and issue
  • Warranty eligibility
  • Shipping destination
  • Available replacement or local support options

We will then advise you of the best available resolution based on your warranty eligibility and location.
