LifeStraw Go Series Water Bottle | How to Clean Mold or MildewUpdated 2 hours ago
Keeping the mouthpiece clean is important, but it is also important to regularly clean the inside of the lid that covers the mouthpiece. That enclosed, damp area can trap water droplets and residue, which may allow mold or mildew to develop over time if it is not cleaned thoroughly.
For proper cleaning, make sure to clean all of the following areas:
- the mouthpiece
- the inside of the lid that surrounds and covers the mouthpiece
- the cap threads and any tight areas where moisture may collect
For a deeper clean, the mouthpiece can also be removed by unscrewing it from the lid.
If you notice mold or mildew
Please follow these deep cleaning steps:
- Remove the filter from the bottle.
- Remove the carbon capsule from the top of the filter.
- Soak the membrane microfilter for 20 minutes in a diluted bleach solution using 1/4 teaspoon of bleach per 2 cups of water or 5 mL of bleach per 500 mL of water.
- Soak the mouthpiece in a similar diluted bleach solution.
- Wash the bottle, lid, the inside of the lid that covers the mouthpiece, and the mouthpiece with dish detergent.
- Thoroughly rinse the membrane microfilter with water after the 20 minute soak. Do not use soap on the filter body.
- Reassemble the bottle once all parts have been thoroughly cleaned and rinsed.
Important note about warranty
LifeStraw does not warranty against mold or mildew growth, as this is typically related to care, cleaning, storage, and ongoing maintenance.
If any part remains difficult to clean or shows ongoing buildup, replacement parts such as lids may be a good option.
