LifeStraw Max | How do I replace the carbon and ultrafilters for my LifeStraw Max?Updated 2 hours ago
When it is time to replace the filters in your LifeStraw Max, please note that the membrane ultrafilters must be replaced together as a set. Before you begin, make sure the water source is not connected to the unit.
To help preserve filter life, do not remove the LifeStraw Max advanced carbon filter from its sealed packaging until you are ready to install it. When removing the carbon filter from its separate packaging, handle it carefully to avoid damage. The top lid must be in place when using the LifeStraw Max.
Before You Start
- Disconnect the water source before replacing any filters.
- Replace both membrane ultrafilters at the same time.
- Keep the new advanced carbon filter sealed until ready to use.
Step 1: Remove the Top Lid
Slide the lid locks toward the middle of the unit to unlock them. Lift the top lid off the Max and set it aside. You do not need to hold the lid locks together while lifting.
Step 2: Disconnect the White Filter Housing Bridge
Remove the white top filter housing bridge by pushing the two tabs toward the center of the unit while pulling the bridge upward.
Step 3: Remove Both Blue Membrane Ultrafilter Cartridges
Remove each blue membrane ultrafilter cartridge by first disconnecting the top cartridge connector and then the bottom cartridge connector.
Lift both cartridges out of the unit and discard them.
Step 4: Open the Gray Carbon Filter Housing
Unscrew the top cap of the gray carbon filter housing. Remove the new carbon filter block from its packaging only when you are ready to install it.
Step 5: Install the New Membrane Ultrafilters
Insert the new membrane ultrafilter cartridges one at a time.
- Align the bottom connector of the cartridge with its fitting at the bottom of the Max.
- Press down firmly.
- Make sure each side connector is also firmly connected to its fitting.
Step 6: Insert the New Carbon Filter
Place the carbon filter into the gray carbon filter housing with the black silicone ring facing outward. Screw the gray carbon cartridge lid on tightly.
Step 7: Reassemble the Carbon Filter Housing
Make sure the bottom of the gray carbon filter housing is properly seated by pressing it firmly into the fitting. Double check that the side cartridge connectors are firmly in place and that the black seal is flush against the inside.
If you removed the full gray carbon filter housing from the Max to install the carbon block:
- Reinsert it by fitting the bottom of the cartridge into the plug fitting located in the bottom of the Max.
- Align the two side connectors with their matching pieces.
- Press firmly to make sure everything is fully in place.
Step 8: Reconnect the White Filter Housing Bridge
Line up the tabs on the white filter housing bridge with their matching slots and press down until it clicks into place. This indicates it is fully locked.
Step 9: Close the Top Lid
Place the top lid back onto the unit and slide the lid locks toward the corners to secure it.
Helpful Note
If you have difficulty opening the carbon filter housing, you can pull the full gray carbon cartridge out of the Max first, then unscrew the top and install the carbon filter block.
Important Reminder
After replacing any filter, perform the backwash procedure before using the unit again.
Additional Care Notes
- Do not remove the advanced carbon filter from sealed packaging until you are ready to use it.
- Handle the carbon filter carefully during installation to avoid damage.
- The top lid must be in place whenever the LifeStraw Max is in use.
