LifeStraw Community FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide

Why Does My New LifeStraw Product Have a Plastic or Chemical Taste?

How to Clean and Maintain Your LifeStraw Community Water Purifier

The LifeStraw Community is designed for high volume water purification in group settings. This guide covers common questions about setup, filter replacement, cleaning, storage, and basic troubleshooting.

Where is the filter located?

The filter cartridge comes pre installed inside the Community body. It is placed there to help protect it from the elements, shipping damage, and tampering. The filter is screwed into place, and the hoses are already connected.

You can find it inside the dark blue section of the unit, and it is ready to use after initial setup.

How often does the filter need to be replaced?

The LifeStraw Community filter lasts for up to 26,000 gallons of water. The filter is designed to clog automatically when it has reached the end of its usable life, which helps indicate that it is time for replacement.

How do I replace the filter?

To replace the filter, you will need to access the inside of the Community unit. Replacement instructions are available in the Community video resources, which walk through how to access and replace the ultrafilter.

How do I set up or take down the Community purifier?

Setup and breakdown instructions are available through the Community support videos. These cover unboxing, assembly, how the purifier works, how to access the inside of the unit, and how to break it down for storage.

Can the hoses be replaced?

Yes. If replacement hoses are needed, they can typically be sourced from a local hardware store.

The Community uses five silicone hoses in the following sizes:

  • 8 mm x 12 mm x 720 mm
  • 8 mm x 12 mm x 580 mm
  • 8 mm x 12 mm x 340 mm
  • 8 mm x 12 mm x 300 mm
  • 16 mm x 22 mm x 330 mm

My Community is leaking. What should I do?

If the unit is leaking, there may be a disconnect between internal parts inside the Community body tank.

Try the following:

  1. Drain all water from the Community.
  2. Remove the four screws around the base to disconnect the spacer body from the rest of the unit.
  3. Reconnect the large hose inside the upper tank.
  4. Reattach the spacer body securely.

If the leak continues after reconnecting the hose, the unit may need additional inspection or support.
