How to Store Your LifeStraw Sip EssentialUpdated 3 hours ago

This is for the plastic Sip:

For storage of less than 1 month:

  1. Blow air through the mouthpiece and gently shake out as much water as possible.
  2. Do not drink the water expelled from the straw.
  3. Remove the mouthpiece cap, silicone mouthpiece, silicone plug, and bottom cap.
  4. Wash the caps and silicone parts with soap and water, then let them dry completely.
  5. Rinse the exterior of the Sip with clean water.
  6. Do not wash the straw or filter with soap.
  7. Wipe the exterior dry and allow all parts to dry completely before reassembly.
  8. Store in a cool, clean environment.

For storage of up to 6 months:

  1. Remove the caps and silicone parts and wash them gently with soap and water. Let them dry completely.
  2. Mix 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) of household bleach with 4 cups (1 L) of clean water.
  3. Place the straw in a non steel reusable container, fully immerse it, and let it sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Empty the solution, remove the straw, and rinse it under clean tap water from the inlet side for 5 minutes.
  5. Backwash by blowing air through the straw to remove any remaining chlorine.
  6. Dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt in 1 L of safe water.
  7. Place the straw in a closeable, non steel reusable container and fully immerse it in the saline solution.
  8. Store the container in a cool, dry place.
  9. Store the dried caps and silicone parts separately in a cool, dry place.

To resume use:

  1. Remove the straw from the saline solution and rinse with clean water for about 1 minute.
  2. Reassemble the caps and silicone parts.
  3. A slight salty taste during the first few sips is expected and should go away quickly.
  4. For storage longer than 6 months, repeat the bleach disinfection before reuse.
