For storage of up to 6 months:
- Remove the caps and silicone parts and wash them gently with soap and water. Let them dry completely.
- Mix 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) of household bleach with 4 cups (1 L) of clean water.
- Place the straw in a non steel reusable container, fully immerse it, and let it sit for 20 minutes.
- Empty the solution, remove the straw, and rinse it under clean tap water from the inlet side for 5 minutes.
- Backwash by blowing air through the straw to remove any remaining chlorine.
- Dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt in 1 L of safe water.
- Place the straw in a closeable, non steel reusable container and fully immerse it in the saline solution.
- Store the container in a cool, dry place.
- Store the dried caps and silicone parts separately in a cool, dry place.
To resume use:
- Remove the straw from the saline solution and rinse with clean water for about 1 minute.
- Reassemble the caps and silicone parts.
- A slight salty taste during the first few sips is expected and should go away quickly.
