How to Store Your LifeStraw Peak Squeeze BottleUpdated 2 hours ago

For storage less than 1 month

If you have already used your LifeStraw Peak Squeeze and plan to store it for less than 1 month, follow the steps below.

1. Backwash the filter

Before storage, backwash the filter to help keep it clean and reduce clogging.

  • Disconnect the membrane microfilter from the top cap by twisting counterclockwise.
  • Screw the included backwash accessory onto the membrane microfilter.
  • Place the open end of the filter into drinking water.
  • Pull water up through the filter by pulling the syringe upward until it reaches the edge of the housing.
  • Push water back through the filter by pressing the syringe downward until the water has fully passed through the other side.
  • Repeat several times.

2. Rinse the bottle components

Rinse the inside of the bottle, top cap, and mouthpiece before putting them away for storage.

3. Disinfect for deeper cleaning

For more thorough cleaning, disinfect the system before storage.

  • Mix 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach with 1 to 2 cups of water.
  • Submerge the end of the filter into the bleach solution.
  • Use the backwash accessory to push and pull the solution through the filter several times.
  • Rinse with tap water.
  • Clean the mouthpiece, caps, and other removable parts as needed.

4. Help protect the membrane during storage

To help support filter performance during storage, store the filter with a saline solution made by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt with water.

Long Term Storage

For storage greater than 1 month

1. Prepare the saline solution

  • Fill a reusable container with 2 cups of water.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of salt and dissolve fully.

2. Fill the filter with saline solution

  • Place the filter into the saline solution.
  • Use the backwash syringe to pull the solution fully into the filter.
  • Attach the filter to the lid with the cap closed.
  • Pour the remaining saline solution into the collapsible squeeze bottle.
  • Screw the filter and lid back onto the bottle.

3. Store properly

  • Store the bottle containing the saline solution in a cool, dry place.
  • If applicable, store your Peak Series Carbon Filter Attachment System in a separate sealed container in a cool, dry place.

Before Using Again

When you are ready to use your Peak Squeeze again:

  1. Discard the saline solution.
  2. Fill the bottle with regular source water.
  3. Use the backwash syringe to remove any remaining salt water from the filter by pulling in clean water and pushing it back through the filter.

Helpful Reminder

Keeping the filter stored in saline solution during long term storage helps maintain membrane performance and may make it easier to resume normal flow when you use the filter again.
