How to Store Your LifeStraw Peak SoloUpdated 16 days ago
It is important that your Peak filter does not dry out after it has been used. Once the membrane filter has been exposed to water, it should be stored properly whenever it will not be used for more than 3 to 4 days.
If the membrane filter becomes completely dry, it may no longer allow water to flow through properly and may not be able to be rehydrated. In that case, the filter will need to be replaced.
To help maintain performance and prevent the membrane from drying out, please follow the storage steps below.
Step 1: Clean with Bleach Solution
- Backwash the membrane microfilter according to the backwashing instructions before storing.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach to 2 cups of water.
- Use the syringe to pull and push the diluted bleach solution through the membrane microfilter 5 times.
- Pull the diluted bleach solution 1 more time.
- Let the filter with the syringe attached lay on a flat surface for 5 minutes.
- After resting, repeat the backwash procedure 5 times with clean water to wash out the chlorine.
Step 2: Store in Salt Solution
- Mix 1 teaspoon of salt with 2 cups of water to create a salt solution.
- Unscrew and remove the top cap and bottom plug cap.
- Connect the syringe, immerse the bottom of the filter in the salt solution, and pull the salt solution into the filter.
- Disconnect the syringe.
- Place the microfilter inside a sealed reusable container filled with the saline solution so the filter remains wet.
- Store the 2 caps separately.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
Before Using Again
- Open the reusable container and discard the excess saline solution.
- Backwash the filter with drinking water to help remove the salt water before using again.
Why This Matters
These long term storage steps are intended to:
- keep the filter at its highest performance
- maintain the hydrophilic properties of the membrane
- help prevent mold or algae growth during storage
