How to Store Your LifeStraw Go Series Waterbottle or Tumbler FiltersUpdated 20 days ago
When your LifeStraw GO Series bottle or tumbler isn’t in use, we recommend storing the membrane filter in a saltwater solution. This helps prevent mold and algae and keeps the filter moist for easy use later.
⚠️ Please do not store saltwater inside stainless steel bottles—it can cause rust.
Here’s how to store your filter properly:
- Remove Carbon Filter
- Let it dry for 30 minutes, then place it in a sealed bag or reusable container.
- Disinfect Membrane Filter
- Mix ¼ tsp household bleach with 2 cups (0.5L) clean water.
- Pour the solution into your bottle with the membrane filter installed. Close the lid and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Rinse twice with clean water, shaking for 30 seconds each time.
Blow air through the filter to remove any bleach residue.
Prepare Saltwater Storage
- In a non-metal container or zip-lock bag, mix 1 tsp salt with 0.5L water. Shake to dissolve.
- Submerge the membrane filter in the solution and seal tightly.
Do not store this solution inside a stainless steel bottle.
Store
- Keep the membrane filter + saltwater in a cool, dry place.
- Place the dry carbon filter in a sealed bag inside your bottle and close the cap.
When You’re Ready to Use It Again:
- Reinsert the carbon filter.
- Discard the salt solution and reinstall the membrane filter.
- Fill the bottle with water and spit out the first few sips if they taste salty.
- If stored for more than 3 months, we recommend replacing the carbon filter.
