Cleaning and Maintaining your Peak Series Gravity PurifierUpdated 3 hours ago
Regular backwashing and routine cleaning help maintain flow rate and performance. The manual notes that this system should be backwashed daily after each use if you plan to store it, and any time you notice the flow of water decreasing.
How to Use
- Remove the full neck cap assembly from the top of the gravity bag by turning the threaded swivel attachment on the hose to the neck cap.
- Leave the neck cap assembly with the hose attached to the side while you fill the bag with water.
- Fill the gravity bag with water. You can fully submerge the bag in water or fill it from the opening.
- Reattach the neck cap, with the hose and membrane ultrafilter already attached.
- Hang the gravity bag from an anchor point using the strap.
- Begin filtering safe water by twisting the end of the membrane ultrafilter counterclockwise to the open position.
- To stop the flow, twist clockwise to the closed position.
Backwashing
- Disconnect the ultrafilter with hose attached from the bag by removing the orange ring counterclockwise.
- Fill the backwash syringe with safe water.
- Thread the syringe onto the threaded water outlet of the membrane ultrafilter. Make sure the ultrafilter cartridge is in the open position so water can pass through.
- Dip the exposed cartridge inlet into water, then use the syringe to slowly pull water through the filter 5 times.
- Let the water drip backwards out of the water inlet side of the ultrafilter. This water is dirty and should be discarded.
- If needed, remove particles from the filter body by tapping the filter to help dislodge debris. The manual notes that the use of sandy, silty, and muddy water will increase backwash frequency.
- Reattach the filter when finished.
Routine Cleaning
The long term storage instructions also include routine rinsing guidance for the system components:
- Rinse the dirty water gravity bag, basket, cap, and hose with safe water.
Helpful Tips
- Test your gear before you go.
- Air trapped in the ultrafilter hose or cartridge may reduce flow. Make sure the prefilter is completely screwed into its locking position.
- If there is air in the hose, you can help remove it by gently squeezing the hose and tapping the cartridge.
Important Care Notes
- Never use the Gravity Purifier to filter seawater or chemically contaminated water, including water from mining tailings ponds or from near large agricultural operations.
- Rinse out the gravity bag and neck cap with safe water before first use.
- Do not drop or place pressure on the product in any manner.
- Do not use if the plastic is cracked.
- Do not use or expose it to extreme heat above 140°F / 60°C or freezing temperatures below 32°F / 0°C.
