Regular backwashing and routine cleaning help maintain flow and reduce clogging in your LifeStraw Peak Series 3L Gravity Water Filter System. The 3L bag can be used as a gravity system, for water storage with the included cap, or as a squeeze bag system.
Daily Use
- Assemble
Attach the membrane microfilter to the gravity bag by first unscrewing the plug cap, then screwing the filter onto the outside of the neck cap until secure. - Attach the hose
Connect the included hose to the exposed outlet of the filter. Make sure the pinch clip is tightened to prevent water from flowing until you are ready. - Fill the bag
Unscrew the neck cap, fill the gravity bag with water, and retighten the cap to close. - Hang and filter
Hang the reservoir from an anchor point using the strap. Release the pinch clip on the hose to allow filtered water to flow through. - Close and protect the filter after use
When finished, remove the hose from the filter, unscrew the filter from the outside of the neck cap, and screw it inside of the bottle to help protect it. Use the plug cap on the end of the neck cap to keep everything secure and help prevent leakage.
Backwashing
Regularly backwash your filter after use to help keep it clean and reduce clogging.
- Disconnect the membrane microfilter by twisting counterclockwise.
- Screw the included backwash syringe onto the membrane microfilter.
- Place the open end of the filter into drinking water.
- Draw water up through the filter by pulling the syringe upward until it reaches the edge of the housing.
- Push water back through the filter by pressing the syringe downward until the water has been fully pushed through the other side.
- Repeat as needed.
Regular Cleaning
If you plan to store the system for less than 1 month, clean it as follows:
- Backwash the filter to help keep it clean and prevent clogging.
- Rinse the inside top cap, mouthpiece, and bag before storage.
- For more complete disinfection, mix 1/4 teaspoon household bleach with 1 to 2 cups of water. Dip the filter into the bleach solution far enough so that the end is submerged, then use the backwash accessory to push and pull the solution through the filter several times. Rinse with tap water. For gravity systems, clean all mouthpieces, caps, and parts for optimal disinfection.
Helpful Tips
- Test your gear before you go.
- If flow rate is slow, use the backwash instructions to help remove possible air bubbles in the membrane.
