Water bubbling up out of LifeStraw Go Series Mouthpiece

Water bubbling or unexpected spurting from your LifeStraw bottle can sometimes occur due to changes in pressure or air buildup inside the bottle. This can be especially common when:

  • The temperature changes significantly (like adding ice)
  • You’re using the bottle at higher altitudes or during travel
  • The bottle has been squeezed or pressurized during use

Here are a few helpful tips:

1. Air Pressure & Altitude:

LifeStraw bottles are designed for normal atmospheric pressure. In high-altitude or pressure-changing environments (like flying or mountain hikes), the air inside the bottle can expand or contract, causing water to bubble up. We recommend "burping" the bottle before opening. Instructions are included below.

2. Ice or Cold Water:

Using ice or very cold water can also create pressure differences inside the bottle. This is harmless but can lead to air pockets and water bubbling when opening the lid.

3. Burping the Bottle:

To release trapped air before drinking, follow these steps:

  • Fill the bottle partially and screw on the lid tightly
  • Turn the bottle upside down (filter at the top)
  • Gently tap or shake the bottle to help release air bubbles
  • Loosen the lid slightly to let the air escape, then re-tighten
  • Turn it upright and test the flow again
