LifeStraw Escape | Troubleshooting Lack of Pressure in Escape
If your LifeStraw Escape is not holding pressure or experiencing a slow flow, try these troubleshooting steps.
- A new LifeStraw Escape filter can take some time to filter water through, as it is a purifier rather than a traditional filter. The flow can vary as much as +/- 30%. The carbon filter is especially dense and can cause the water to be slower in flow initially. Allowing water to fully saturate the carbon filter and backwashing a couple of times can help improve the flow.
- Air bubbles can occasionally get trapped in the membrane, which may slow performance. You can try gently releasing some of the pressure as you filter, which can help free those bubbles and improve the flow.
- Is the pressure release valve closed (D)? Be sure that the pressure release valve is not stuck in the open position. Usually, a hissing sound will be coming from the unit, which means the pressure valve could be stuck in the open position. Pull the tab gently and rotate to close.

- Are all gaskets and O-rings present and in good condition? Within the Escape's center pump are 3 separate gaskets/ O-rings. One at the base of the pump handle (C), and two at the Top Lid (C). See the photo below on how to locate.

- If water is escaping back into the top of the Escape when pumping, the small silicone check valve on the bottom of the pump handle assembly may be missing or bent. Double-check that this item is there.
