How to store and clean the LifeStraw Mission or Family Filter
If you have the Mission and the Family products for long-term storage, we recommend thoroughly cleaning the filter, hose, and bag/bucket.
These steps are essential because they will prevent mold from forming.
- Dissolve 2 tsp of chlorine solution (ordinary household bleach) into a container filled with about 2 liters of clean water.
- Fill the bag/bucket with the prepared mix and start filtration.
- Once purified water flows from the blue tap, close it and let it rest overnight.
- After resting overnight, squeeze the red bulb three times (wait between each squeeze to allow the water to refill the red bulb).
- Open the red tap to withdraw the water remaining in the bag/bucket.
- After this procedure, ensure to rinse the filter thoroughly to remove all chlorine residue.
- Dry all components and store them.
- After a long storage time, fill the bag/bucket with water and open the red tap for 5 seconds (this will remove air trapped in the hollow fiber membranes).
